ALCOHOL IMPAIRS AT
LOW LEVELS
In Other Words....
You Don't Get It!
Just ask a Gorilla
!!!!
Drinking even a light or
moderate amount of alcohol - say, only a couple of beers - might not
seem like a lot, but can make people oblivious to certain things... even
a Gorilla !
Researchers at the
University of Washington gave 23 people enough alcohol to reach a blood
alcohol content of 0.04 percent (half the legal limit and only about 2
and 1/2 beers for a 180 pound man.)
A second group of 23
people drank no alcohol.
The researchers then
showed both groups a video clip of two teams passing a ball back and
forth, and asked them to count the number of times the ball was passed.
Meanwhile, during the
clip a man in a gorilla suit walked through the crowd, thumped his
chest, and walked off.
Researchers said that 46
percent of the non-drinkers saw and identified the gorilla, but only 18
percent of the drinkers did. "Alcohol limits our attention
span and does something to the brain cognitively" said the
researchers. Alcohol, it seems, even in low doses limits our senses
including the ability for perception and our cognitive abilities
overall.

"We have all witnessed the
savage human toll of addiction...
We now know enough to save millions of lives over the next few years. Whether we do so or
not depends upon us.
Addiction is Americas Number One Killer and Crippler.
Its a tough adversary that won't respond to token efforts. Everyone of us, private
citizens, business and labor leaders, clergy, teachers and school administrators, social
service and law enforcement workers, government officials at every level, friends and
families, parents and children - everyone of us has a role in the effort to control and
eventually lick addiction".
